Matthew Decore grew up working summers at his parent’s hotels in Jasper and Banff where he also rediscovered his love of cycling. At the completion of his political science undergrad, Matthew embarked on an odyssey of full-time mountain bike, road and cyclo-cross racing. In 2002, he competed for Canada’s National team on projects such as the Tour of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Tour of Qinghai Lake, China and went to the Cyclo-Cross World Championships in Zolder, Belgium. He finished 2nd, with partner Andreas Hestler and Team Rocky Mountain, in the 2003 Trans Rockies, and by that time had held seven Alberta provincial elite championship titles in five different disciplines. In 2004, Matthew completed his MBA in international business from the University of Alberta; and in 2011, he entered a commercial partnership with his brother, Lyndon, where they own and operate two Outlying Commercial Accommodations (OCA) properties in the Bow Valley Parkway of Banff and Columbia Icefields Parkway of Jasper National Parks. He was Event Director of the 2010 Elite Road Race National Championships in Edmonton, was co-chair of Stage Three and Four of the 2015 Tour of Alberta Presented by ATB Financial, working with Parks Canada and the Municipality to help oversee all aspects of the Jasper National Park events, and in 2016 joined the Board of Directors of the ATB Tour of Alberta professional bike race. Through AMPPE, Matthew’s passion now lies with enhancing cycling experiences and opportunities within the mountain parks.
