Love to ski in Banff? Talk with Parks about the future of Sunshine Village Ski Area online or in person

July 25 – Banff, AB – Parks Canada

Want to participate online? read the documents, submit comments and take the survey at: https://www.talkwithparks.ca/sunshine

Whether you regularly play in the mountains, or simply have an interest in the management of Canada’s national parks, have your say and help Parks Canada plan for the future operation of the Sunshine Village Ski Area in Banff National Park.

Site Guidelines (a planning document) provide direction for the long-term operation of a ski area. Establishing Site Guidelines is a key step in managing ski areas in ways that respect their unique location in a national park.

Priority issues for the Sunshine Village Ski Area Site Guidelines include: identifying parameters to guide potential use and development, establishing permanent boundaries to growth, and providing clarity and predictability regarding the types of projects that can be considered should specific proposals be advanced in the future.

Public participation is important to ensure there are no gaps in information and to improve the Site Guidelines where possible. Your feedback will be used to inform the final versions of the Site Guidelines for the Sunshine Village Ski Area. Comments will be received until August 19, 2018.

The draft Site Guidelines address key elements at the Sunshine Village Ski Area including potential:
· Objectives related to ecological integrity, and visitor experience and education;
· Development and future growth limits related to daily skier capacity, ski terrain & facilities;
· Summer use;
· Parking options; and
· Leasehold reductions.
